Massive Royal Wedding Fails

Aug 13, 2020Roshanak

Royal weddings are fairytale-like events that everyone loves. They are filled with pomp and circumstance, but there are several moments that weren’t exactly planned. Did you see how Prince Harry had trouble with Meghan’s veil? Did you know what Louis XVI didn’t go to his own wedding? The last Emperor of China ran away from his own ceremony. Let’s find out more!

FUMBLING WITH THE VEIL

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex might not be part of the royal family anymore, but their wedding in 2018 was stunning. Meghan Markle was the first American and mix-raced woman to join the British royals. She and Harry had several goofy and special moments at their wedding, but one of the best was his fumbling with the veil inside the chapel. The Prince did not know how it was supposed to be arranged.

Oprah Winfrey is an important part of Hollywood and a media mogul. She attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding along with several other celebrities like Idris Elba and George Clooney. However, it seems like the famous TV personality had no idea where she was supposed to sit. Someone had to come to help her.

Naturally, there is a huge parade during British royal weddings, and it’s a wonderful moment where people can see the couple. They are surrounded by cavalry, and it’s often hard to predict what animals will do. One horse decided that had enough of this event and went into the crowd during Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding. You can see what happened here.

Prince William and Kate Middleton got married in 2011, and it was a moment that British people had been looking forward to for many years. However, it must have been hard to smile during that long carriage ride, and the Duke of Cambridge was caught with his tongue out. It’s not exactly a “fail,” but it’s still not part of the protocol.

LOOKING TIRED

Everyone that has attended any kind of wedding knows that the speech from ministers/priests can be pretty boring, and several people have been caught with less-than-amused expressions at these weddings. For example, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Lady Louise Windsor were not entertained at Prince Harry and Meghan’s ceremony.

Clearly, being cheeky runs in her genes because Princess Charlotte has also been caught with her tongue out during a royal wedding event. Kids are always part of these ceremonies as bridesmaids and page boys, and you cannot always control them. They might be taught royal etiquette, but they are still children.

NOT IMPRESSED

It looks like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding might have run a little too long and perhaps boring because Queen Elizabeth II was another member of the royal family that looked pretty bored. Some would even say that she might have been mad. Maybe, she could see the future. Either way, you are not supposed to look like that at a wedding.

THE WRINKLED DRESS

Princess Diana’s wedding is considered one of the most iconic in fashion history. It has that 25-foot train that people normally associated with a fairytale wedding, but there was a bit of an issue. Many pictures were taken outside St. Pauls’ Cathedral showed a wrinkled dress. This happened during the carriage ride to the church.

THE RUNAWAY GROOM

Puyi was considered the Last Emperor of China, but only in name because the abdication happened in 1912. However, he lived in the Forbidden City, and his wedding was supposed to be a massive event. In 1922, he married Wan Rong, but historians explain that after the ceremony, he ran away. Therefore, the Emperor never had his wedding night. This rumor was fueled by the fact that his bride never got pregnant.

TOO TIRED

Anyone that has seen children at weddings can probably tell when they get bored and want to go home. However, bridesmaids and page boys at royal ceremonies cannot simply beg their parents to leave. So, during Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston’s wedding, some of them took a bit of rest outside St. George’s Chapel.

FORGETTING THE BOUQUET

Brides need a lot of things during their wedding, although not everyone follows the traditions of “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.” However, they need their bouquet, and Princess Nathalie Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg of Denmark forgot it. They had to wait several minutes for something to bring it before they could start the ceremony.

TOO TIGHT FOR HER FINGER

Putting a ring on someone’s finger shouldn’t be hard, but when you’re standing at the altar and everyone is looking at you, there might be some stage fright. It seems that this happened to Prince William during his wedding to Kate Middleton. It seems that she had her ring resized and it would not get past her knuckle.

THE BROKEN TIARA

Back when she was still a princess, Elizabeth married Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. She would wear the famous Fringe Tiara, designed for Queen Mary in 1919, but the hairstylist accidentally broke it. According to the royal jewelry, House of Garrard, it was escorted to their workshops by police to be fixed the morning of the wedding.

MISSING GROOM

King Louis XVI was famously married to Marie Antoinette in 1770. The ceremony was held in Vienna, but Louis did not attend. Instead, Marie’s brother, Ferdinand, had to play the stand-in groom. The problem is that Louis never consented to an arranged marriage, and he was 15 years old. When Marie arrived at Versailles, there was a huge feast to celebrate the union. The king was seen pouting for most of it.

THE FATHER THAT WAS NOT THERE

During the days leading to Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding, there was a bit of trouble with her father’s side of the family. Unfortunately, Thomas Markle was disinvited from the ceremony, and Prince Charles walked her down the aisle instead. However, his name still appeared in the wedding program. Kensington Palace stated later, “The Order of Service was produced before it became clear that Mr. Thomas Markle would be unable to attend the wedding on medical advice.”
