The "Hercules" cartoon is based on the main character, Hercules, a half-human, half-god Greek hero and the son of the god Zeus. However, instead of telling the absolute and gruesome story about the young man's origins, Disney watered the movie down for younger audiences.

Besides Hercules and his father, the film starred other characters like Hades, Megara "Meg," Phil, Hermes, Panic, Pain, Thalia, and more. What makes it appealing to the older generation is how it uses adult humor without making it so obvious.

While it produces lots of laughs with the hijinks the characters get into; some parts leave one deeply contemplating the wisdom shared. Below we look at 54 Disney "Hercules" quotes that have stood the test of time.

For those in the dark, Phil was Hercules' mentor who worked on training him because he saw something special in the young man. Zeus's son wasn't only strong but also good-looking, leading many girls to throw themselves at him, including Thalia.

The "Hercules" movies often touched on things relevant to today's culture, like having groupies, father issues, and more. While laughing and enjoying the antics the cartoon characters got into, one also saw the challenges different characters faced, like the relationship between the brothers Zeus and Hades.

Hades had a bad reputation as the god of the dead, while Zeus was the good guy but was the same person who had affairs in mythology, hence Hercules. Either way, the 1997 film, and all adaptations since have been interesting.
