A young woman shelters a homeless man for the night, but he vanishes without a trace the following morning – only to reappear a few days later in a completely new appearance that reveals something shocking about him.

Susan Morales was a newborn when her mother, Clara, abandoned her and placed her in the care of her grandfather, Arthur. Arthur never tried to hide this from her, and she was well aware of how Clara's lover had abandoned them, as well as how Clara had followed in his footsteps by eloping with a wealthy man.

However, that didn't affect Susan because she had an adoring grandpa who raised her to be a compassionate woman. But sadly, when she was 23, he died of a heart attack, leaving her all alone.

As a result, when Susan saw a homeless old man shivering outside her office in the cold, she couldn't help but approach him because he reminded her of Authur. She went across the street and got a packet of croissants and a large cup of coffee for him, which she offered him gently.

"Good morning, sir. Please take this. It will make you feel better," she said with a smile.

Tears welled up in the man's eyes as he raised his gaze to accept the croissants and coffee. "I really appreciate that, young woman. I - I hadn't eaten in days," he said, trembling.

Susan wrapped her scarf around his neck. "Please take care of yourself. It's quite chilly today," she told him before departing for her office.

However, she couldn't stop thinking about him when she returned to work. The scruffy man reminded her of Arthur. He, too, had huge innocent eyes and a white beard. And the way he grinned when she handed him her scarf was exactly how Arthur would have reacted!

And so, after getting off work that day, she thought of offering a night's shelter to the homeless man. She peered down her office window and saw he was still there, cuddled up in a ripped blanket. She quickly gathered all her stuff and overcoat and ran across the street to him.

"Excuse me, sir," she said. "It's quite cold here. Why don't you come over to my house tonight? I have some delicious tea at home that my grandfather used to bring back from India for us. If you don't mind..."

"Oh, dear!" the man cried. "Why would you do something like this for a homeless man like me? You are such a sweet young lady."

"It's not a problem at all, sir. Shall we?"

Kindness is like a boomerang; it always comes back in some manner.

"Thank you so much, darling! Thank you! I will never forget your kindness," he whispered, tears welling up in his eyes as he followed her to her car.

At home, Susan prepared him a warm, hearty meal of spaghetti and meatballs and served him a cup of tea. Tears flickered in the man's eyes as he took the first bite.

"What's your name, young lady? I've been on the streets for a long time, but nobody has been so generous to me," he remarked, fighting back his tears.

"My name is Susan Morales," replied Susan. "Would you mind telling me what happened that you had to live on the streets? Please don't get me wrong."

"Oh no, dear, it's absolutely fine," the man replied. "My name is George Davis," he began. "After my wife passed away a few years ago, I was devastated and heartbroken. We didn't have any children, and I was living alone in our apartment. Then, out of nowhere, her distant relatives appeared and threw me out of the apartment. As a result, I was forced to seek refuge on the streets..."

"But how can they do that?" Susan retorted fiercely. "They have no right to kick someone out like that!"

"I know, dear. But a poor old man like me didn't have the strength to fight back. Either way, it's not like I have anything left in my life. My wife's gone, so I don't care about anything else."

Susan's heart sank when she saw how depressed George had become since the death of his wife. She reasoned that it wouldn't be too much of a strain to ask him to stay at her place for as long as he wanted.

"Well, sir," she said. "You are welcome to make yourself at home, and I don't mind if you stay. My house has an extra guest room. Anyway, I've been living alone since my grandfather died. He was the only family I had ever known."

"Oh, darling! That's really sad. I'm so sorry for your loss. And thank you for your concern, but that won't be necessary," he declined, smiling through his tears. "A night's shelter would be enough."

Susan didn't understand why George would turn her down, and the next day, when she woke up to check on him, he was gone. At one point, she wondered if she had been too generous in providing him with shelter without considering his background and whether he may have robbed her.

But when she looked around her house, everything was as it had been. Even her purse lying on the table hadn't been touched.

At this point, she stared sadly at the door, thinking about how cold it was outside and George would have to spend his nights on the street again. However, there wasn't much she could do to assist him, so she got ready for work and left for her office. Deep down, though, she expected to see him there again, but he never showed up.

At that point, Susan assumed she'd never see George again. But the following week on Sunday, her doorbell rang, and she found a man dressed nicely in a tuxedo and polished shoes standing at her doorstep.

"Oh my God, Mr. Davis?" her eyes widened in surprise. "You look so different!"

He smiled. "Do you mind if I come in?"

"Oh, sorry. Yes, please, come in."

"This is for you, Susan," he replied, extending an envelope to her.

"An envelope for me? What's inside it?" she wondered. However, when she opened it, everything started to make sense. "Mr. Davis, this…what is this?"

"A reward for your kindness, Susan," he said. "Remember I told you after my wife died, I was extremely alone and how depressed I felt? That true. But I'm not a homeless man. My wife and I didn't have any children, so I was concerned about who would inherit my wealth after I died. As strange as it may sound, I disguised myself as a homeless man and traveled to different places in search of my heir. And after meeting you, I knew I'd found what I was looking for."

Susan couldn't believe what had just happened. Inside the envelope was a copy of George's will that stated she was the heir to his $2.3 million estate.

She didn't think she was worthy enough to take it and refused it initially, but she was forced to give in when George insisted. She still believes whatever happened was a miracle, and she was blessed with Arthur in George's guise.
