A woman is bewildered by a stranger's repeated visits to her fiancé's grave, so she resolves to confront him one day. Little does she know it will reveal something shocking about her fiancé's past.

Millie and Steve were high school sweethearts, and they wanted to get hitched soon after completing college. But unfortunately, fate had other plans for them, and Steve died unexpectedly, leaving Millie alone with only their fond memories, which she often reminisced about whenever she paid him a visit at his gravesite.

But aside from the pain, another thing that came to Millie's mind constantly when she visited Steve these days was a strange man who would frequently lay white and red roses on Steve's grave.

At first, she assumed he was a friend of Steve's. But after catching a glimpse of his face, she realized he wasn't. She knew all of Steve's friends, and she'd never met or seen this man before. Who was he?

A few months back, Millie had moved from her hometown in Brooklyn to Texas for higher studies. She was scared at the time that the physical barrier between her and Steve would impair their relationship and cause them to grow apart.

However, everything appeared to be alright for the first few months of the move. Though they did speak quite often with each other, they often video called on weekends and would regularly text each other about their daily schedules.

But three months into her relocation, things started to change. Steve didn't seem too interested in taking her calls anymore, and at one point, he started to avoid them.

Millie was quite worried about his sudden change in attitude, and she shared this with her roommate, Amanda. But Amanda's only response to Millie was that Steve was probably seeing someone else.

"You know how guys are, Millie," she remarked, busy scrolling through Instagram. "You think your dude is going to stay honest with you? I don't think so, babe!"

"Steve and I have known each other since high school, Amanda," Millie defended. "We've been dating for a long time, and we were planning on getting married right after college! I'm sure there's something Steve doesn't want me to know because he thinks it would upset me. Maybe something happened to him."

Amanda gave her a mocking laugh. "Ya, sure. Sleeping around with pretty girls is also something he would love to hide."

Millie sighed, giving her a disapproving look. "Shut up, Amanda! Steve loves me! I think I'll head to Brooklyn this weekend. I want to see Steve."

"Sure, babe, good luck! I hope Mr. fiancé doesn't break your heart…."

Millie shook her head, staring at Amanda, then at her phone where Steve's photo was her wallpaper, hoping what Amanda had said wasn't true. But she couldn't shake the feeling that it was a possibility.

When she flew to Brooklyn on Sunday, Steve would absolutely have no clue she was coming to see him. Standing outside his house, she took a deep breath and reassured herself that everything would be fine before ringing the doorbell. A minute later, the door opened, and Steve's mother, Mrs. Ferguson, emerged from inside.

"Millie?" Mrs. Ferguson was shocked. "I - I didn't know you were coming to Brooklyn, darling. It's been quite some time since I last saw you."

Millie found it strange that Mrs. Ferguson was so stunned by her visit. "Ahh...I'm sorry I hadn't been in touch with you after moving to Texas, Mrs. Ferguson. How's Steve? Is he home?"

"Steve?" Millie noticed Mrs. Ferguson's eyes well up at Steve's name, and the slight grin on her face vanished.

"What happened, Mrs. Ferguson? Is he alright? He hasn't replied to my messages or calls for two weeks, so I was quite worried. Please tell me he's fine."

"Oh, dear! What do I even say? Steve - he - he passed away last week, darling. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor. My poor baby...I couldn't recognize him when I went to see him at the hospital. He looked so weak....he underwent surgery, but unfortunately, he didn't make it..."

"What? This ... this can't be true, Mrs. Ferguson. Why didn't anyone tell me?" Millie said, and she collapsed on the floor in tears, unable to accept that Steve was no more.

"I'm so sorry, honey. It was Steve's wish that we tell you only after you were back home. He didn't want to bother you unnecessarily. But what's done is done, Millie. We can't change what God brought upon us, but we can stay strong, darling. You need to..." Mrs. Ferguson hugged Millie to comfort her. But nothing could calm her.

Millie wept her heart out for days and weeks, devastated that her Steve would never come back. A part of her couldn't forgive herself for doubting him, so every weekend, she traveled all the way to Texas to see him -- even though he wouldn't be smiling at her and hugging her or waiting for her. Traveling from Brooklyn to Texas was quite the stress, but Millie didn't care because it was for Steve, so it was worth it.

However, when she started to notice the stranger visiting Steve's grave, she forgot her grief for a moment, and her mind was fixated on finding out who the stranger could be. One day, she confronted him.

"Hey!" she called out as he prepared to leave. "Please wait! I want to talk to you about something."

The man turned around, and his eyes widened as if he'd seen a ghost.

"What's wrong? Why are you so shocked? And how did you know Steve?" Millie asked, running over to him and staring right into his eyes.

"Uhh, well…" the man hesitated. "We were good friends."

"Friends? But I knew all of Steve's friends, and I'm sure he never introduced me to you. What's your name?"

Millie noticed he was at a loss, which made him look even more suspicious. "Look, Millie, I'm sorry, but I have to go," he said, then turned and hurried away.

Millie was frozen in shock. How did he know her name?

Fortunately, the next time she went to see Steve, the man was there again. And this time, she was resolved not to let him go without getting her answers.

"How do you know us? Who are you? And why aren't you telling me the truth?" she asked sternly as she grabbed his arm. "I'm not letting you go until you give me answers!"

The man started to cry silently. "I - I owe my life to him," he said between sobs. "I'm so sorry for your loss, Millie. My name is Ronald. Steve loved you, and he didn't deserve to die…."

Ronald revealed that he and Steve met while Steve was in the hospital. Ronald required a heart transplant, and Steve had agreed to donate his organs to him if he didn't survive. He'd also told him about Millie and how much he adored her, and that's how Ronald knew everything.

"He told me he wanted to see you happy," Ronald said. "I'm sorry, but I was afraid of confronting you and telling you the truth, so I ran off that day. Steve had told me that he loved you a lot, so he didn't want to upset you by telling you about his diagnosis. His condition was critical, and the doctors had told him they would try their best to ensure the surgery was successful, but sadly, they couldn't save him."

Millie touched Ronald's chest to feel his heart, and it was the first time in several months that she felt so relieved. "Don't blame yourself for what happened, Ronald. I know Steve would never want you to be sad. And thanks for keeping him alive …."

From that day on, Ronald and Millie became friends. They often visited Steve's grave together and spent time with each other. Eventually, they realized they were becoming more than friends, and after a year of Steve's passing, they decided to strengthen their relationship and tied the knot.

A year later, they welcomed a beautiful baby boy, whom they named Steve.
