Linda McGowan's mother was vehemently opposed to her relationship with Charles Rogers, and she had warned her about him countless times. "He'll kick you out in no time, Linda! He's just a rich man playing with your feelings! You're slipping into his trap!" her mother had warned her.

Linda, however, had a different opinion. Sure, Charles was a millionaire businessman, but he fought tirelessly over the years to overcome the poverty he'd fallen into following his parents' deaths and his upbringing in an orphanage.

Linda knew he'd suffered the worst. He was well aware of how difficult it was to be without money, without help, without parents, and without love. So she felt confident he would never abandon her.

Linda and Charles met for the first time in a restaurant where Linda worked as a waitress. When she noticed him staring at her from behind a table, she averted her gaze and walked away, ignoring him, thinking he was one of those men looking for a one-night stand. But the truth was that Charles fell in love with her at first sight.

He returned to the restaurant several times, pleading with her to go on a date, and when she eventually accepted, he proposed to her that night. It all happened too quickly, and Linda declined because she was embarrassed that she wasn't an equal match for him. He was wealthy and she wasn't. But Charles didn't give up.

He dropped by her restaurant every evening to take her home, which she, of course, declined every time. But after months of seeing him try so hard for her, sending her flowers and chocolates and apologizing for taking things too fast, Linda began to develop feelings for him and eventually fell in love with him.

However, things took a terrible turn when Charles and Linda discovered she was infertile. Linda couldn't bear the thought of not being able to give birth, and it was quite tough for her. Charles was very encouraging, assuring her that if God did not bless them with children, they could always adopt.

But Linda wasn't sure if she really wanted it. She wished she could carry her baby inside her and experience the bliss of motherhood. But that would not be possible now, and that shook her to the core. What hurt her more was that, soon after this, she began to notice an abrupt shift in Charles' demeanor.

Unlike in the past, he didn't appear to be particularly enthused about anything. He often returned late from work, hardly spent time with her, and if she asked what took him so long at work, he'd just avoid the topic and head to bed. Linda didn't feel comfortable about this, and she suspected something was amiss.

When he finally left the building at 7 p.m., she followed him, but instead of driving toward their home, he drove in the opposite direction. "I want to be wrong, God! I hope things are not what I think!" Her heart was racing fast as she followed him.

A few minutes later, she noticed they were in a shady neighborhood, and Charles halted his car near a dilapidated old house. When he knocked, a woman appeared from inside with three triplet girls.

Linda's heart plummeted as she witnessed Charles cradling the toddlers in his arms. Feeling cheated and hurt, she drove back home, crying that her mother was right. Charles was having an affair and he wanted to leave her! In fact, he had a family, and he didn't need her anymore!

She flipped through the papers and saw it was Charles' will that stated their estate – the massive villa they resided in – would be inherited by Sophie, Jessica, and Mimi Burns when they reached the age of 18.

Linda's heart sank when she discovered a photo in the same file of the three triplet girls she had just seen with Charles. "When - When did I become so blind that I didn't see you were losing interest in me, Charles? You could have just told me that you didn't want to be with me. Why did you cheat?" She sobbed and sobbed her heart out, unable to accept what was happening.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching their room. It was Charles, and he was back home. "Linda!" He panicked when he saw her on the floor, crying. "Darling, what's wrong?"

"Why Charles? Why didn't you tell me you wanted to leave me?" She begged like a child for his answer.

"What?" he frowned. "Are you out of your mind? I am not leaving you, Linda!"

"Seriously?" she asked, wiping her tears away and glaring at him. "Who was that woman you met? And who were those little girls?! I saw everything, and I read your will! Those girls are your daughters! They are the ones to whom you transferred your mansion - our mansion! You hate me because I cannot give you kids! That's the truth. YOU'RE HAVING AN AFFAIR!"

Charles shot her a disapproving look. "There isn't anything like that, Linda! They are not my children! You know what, stand up and come with me first." He made her sit on their bed and took her hand in his.

"I am not cheating on you, Linda," he said. "The woman you saw earlier is my ex-business partner Jonathan's wife. Her name is Sandra. Jonathan was a very kind man and helped me a lot when I was about to embark on my entrepreneurial journey. His rivals assassinated him and burned down their home. Sandra was expecting triplets at the time of the incident. I didn't know anything about it until I received a message from her. She was living in a terrible condition, and she wanted help from me, that's all!"

"What?" Linda was staring at him, her eyes wide open. "Why didn't you tell me anything then? Why did you hide it?"

"That's because you were already stressed with the whole infertility thing, Linda. I didn't want you to feel like I was being insensitive to you."

"Oh, God," she hugged him. "I'm so sorry. I - I shouldn't have doubted you! But Charles, what about your friend? We need to get him justice. Those men need to be punished!"

"What do you mean?"

"Sandra has cancer, and she's undergoing treatment, but nothing's working out for her. So I put our mansion in her daughters' name, so they don't have to live on the streets if Sandra doesn't make it. She also suggested we could adopt her children if we wanted to. But I'm not putting any pressure on you to do so. If that's not what you want, I'll—"

"That won't be necessary, Charles," Linda replied as she took his hands in hers. "I'd love to adopt the girls and raise them as our own children. And yeah, sorry for my outburst."

"I love you too, darling."

The next day, Charles took Linda to meet Sandra, and they told her they'd be interested in taking the girls in. Sandra was over the moon when she heard that, glad that her daughters would be safe in their hands.

Since then, Linda and Sandra became good friends. They looked after the triplets together, and on weekends, Sandra and her girls spent time at Charles and Linda's house.
