"Cora, honey, enough!" Jessica sighed, looking helplessly at her daughter. "Be a good girl and go to sleep. It's past your bedtime...."
Jessica had been trying to get Cora to sleep for the past hour, but the 2-year-old was being extremely fussy and wasn't ready to sleep. Jessica read her a short story and even sang her a lullaby, but nothing worked. Exhausted, she gave up and went back to her bedroom.
"Adam!" she complained to her husband. "Your daughter is bent on draining all my energy today! And you're reading a book here?" She slumped on the bed and covered her face with a pillow. "I'm done trying, Adam! It's your turn to put your little angel to sleep!"

Adam grinned, putting down his book, and held her lovingly. "It's alright, honey. I'll put her to sleep. Don't stress about it, okay?"

Adam proceeded to Cora's room to put her to sleep while Jessica rested on their bed. For some reason, even though she was tired, she couldn't bring herself to sleep. Probably because she was worried Cora would give Adam a hard time too by not going to sleep.
"Oh, how I wish raising a child was easier!" Jessica sighed.
She picked up Adam's book and began reading it, hoping she'd fall asleep, but it seemed like sleep had left her eyes, just like Cora's.
After a couple of minutes, when Jessica was finally about to doze off on the book, Adam returned to their room. "Mission accomplished!" he exclaimed as he sat on the bed beside her.
Hearing this, Jessica was suddenly wide awake again. "Are you serious? Is she really asleep?"

Adam nodded. "Wow! I should have asked you sooner!" she laughed. "I'll just check on her once and come back."
Jessica went to Cora's room and gently opened the door to find the lights switched off and Cora in her crib. "She looks pretty adorable while sleeping, doesn't she?" Jessica thought as she looked at her little daughter sleeping peacefully in her crib.
Jessica returned to her bedroom and turned off all their lights, all ready to sleep, but just a few minutes later, she heard little whispers from the baby monitor installed in Cora's room.
"Adam!" She looked back and held his hands, her eyes tearing up. "Cora! Oh God!"
"Adam, wake up! Do you hear that?" she said, trying to wake her husband.
Adam was almost asleep by then. "What is it, Jess? Just go to sleep. It's going to be a long day tomorrow."
"I hear something in Cora's room, honey," Jessica said, terrified. "Get up! We need to check on her."
The baby monitor in Cora's room only transmitted sound and no video, so Jessica was worried.

Rubbing his eyes, Adam sat up on the bed. "There's nobody in her room. I just put her to sleep like some time ago!"
"No, I hear something….Listen carefully…."
When Adam and Jessica concentrated on the sound, they heard words like "God" and "Thank" in faint whispers. "That's strange! Seems like someone's praying in her room!" Jessica bolted to Cora's room, terrified, and Adam followed her.
Once there, Jessica turned the lights on, but she wasn't prepared for what she saw. "Adam!" She looked back and held his hands, her eyes tearing up. "Cora! She's praying!"
Adam and Jessica exchanged glances, and they couldn't believe their little daughter was sitting in her crib, her eyes closed and tiny palms clasped together.
"Shan - Shank U, Go - God," she was uttering in the most childish and adorable tone.
Seeing her pray like that, Jessica suddenly remembered something.

"Adam! We didn't pray today!"
"What?"
"Remember how we pray every night before dinner by holding hands and thanking God for everything he has given us? We didn't do it today since you unexpectedly had a meeting and ate dinner in our room, and while I was eating, Cora kept staring at me! I thought she didn't enjoy the food, but she did! She was telling me that I had forgotten to pray!"
Suddenly, Cora opened her eyes and saw her mommy and daddy in her room, throwing her adoring stares, and she started giggling. "Mawmy! Za-Zaddy! Prayer!" she cried, throwing her hands up in excitement.
"Oh, sweetie! Yes! You're right!" Jessica said, scooping her in her arms. "We're sorry! Mommy and Daddy should have prayed. We will keep that in mind! Is that why you couldn't sleep, huh?"

Cora nodded, a bright smile on her face, and Jessica and Adam couldn't believe their eyes. "She notices everything we do, honey," Jessica told Adam. "Our daughter is learning from us. Can you believe she's just 2 and she was praying? Oh, I love you so much, baby…."
But while seeing their daughter pray was a happy moment for the proud parents, they had to spend a good time trying to put Cora to sleep again. But this time, when she slept, she didn't wake up again and slept soundly throughout the night.
God must be smiling at Cora for her brilliant little soul, while Jessica and Adam were incredibly proud that they were able to instill the habit of prayer in their little daughter's heart.
What can we learn from this story?
- We should teach our children the value of prayer and giving thanks. Adam and Jessica would pray with their daughter and give thanks everyday that little Cora eventually got into the habit.
- Our children observe and learn from everything we do. Cora learned to pray by watching her parents pray every night.
