Father Notices Groom's Mother at Daughter's Wedding and Recognizes Woman from His Youth — Story of the Day
Andrea's father, James Smith, has always dreamt about walking her down the aisle one day. When that moment finally came, he was surprised to see that the groom's mother was someone he knew from a long time ago.

Andrea Smith was a daddy's girl ever since she was young. A single child, Andrea was given nothing but the best that the world had to offer.
When she was old enough to date, the very first man she brought home to meet her parents was Timothy. At first, James acted tough around him, until he tore his walls down and the two became instant best friends.
Timothy and Andrea met when she moved to San Francisco to work for a fin-tech company. It was there that she met Timothy, an up-and-coming tech guru who just built his own social networking app.
San Francisco was a long drive away from Santa Ana, California, where her parents resided. Due to her busy schedule and because she did not want to waste any energy driving all the way to southern California, her trips home were rare.

Timothy and Andrea lived together for years before they finally decided to tie the knot. When she told her parents of their plans, they requested for the ceremony to be in the Santa Ana area, but Andrea refused. She wanted it to be easy for Timothy's family to go, as they all lived in the bay area.
"Timothy has a large family who all live in the bay area. Getting them there will be such a hassle, and it'd be very costly, too. It'd be much easier for both of you to either drive or take a quick flight over here," Andrea explained.
All James and his wife Karen wanted for Andrea was to be happy, so they were extremely supportive while she planned her San Francisco wedding.
They were scheduled to fly to San Francisco the day before the wedding, just in time for the rehearsal dinner with Timothy's family.
Unfortunately, their plans were ruined by some technical difficulties. While the ground staff checked on the airplane right before it was cleared to depart, they found a couple of technical malfunctions that caused the flight to be canceled.

Taking a nine-hour bus ride was not an option for them, as all buses to San Francisco were fully-booked. They could not take their car either, as James sent it to the car shop for some repairs while they were away for the wedding.
Their only option was to take the next available flight out, which was scheduled for the next day. If the flight goes smoothly, it would arrive just an hour before the wedding ceremony was scheduled to start.
James, Karen, and James' mother, Catherine, were nervously trying to make it out of the airport once they arrived in San Francisco. They decided to get dressed in the airplane washroom just so they could get to the ceremony on time.
When they got out of the airport, they had 30 minutes to get to the church. James quickly called a taxi to take them there, offering a large tip if the driver could get them there on time.

Luckily for them, Andrea just got out of the bridal car as soon as they arrived. She beamed as she saw her parents, giving them quick hugs before preparing herself to walk down the aisle.
"You look wonderful, sweetheart," James said, as he tucked his daughter's hand into the crook of his arm. "Are you ready?" he asked her.
When Andrea nodded, the wedding song started playing, and the large church doors opened. The father and daughter duo took deep breaths before walking into the church.
The church was huge, and the red carpet they had to walk on seemed endless. Andrea decided to give her dad a crash course on those who attended the wedding, which mostly consisted of Timothy's family members, and the pair's friends.
"Timothy has two sisters and two brothers. They're all married. That's Emma, her husband David, Claire, her husband Sam, and then there's Seth and his wife Amanda, and the eldest, Peter and his wife Danielle," she whispered while keeping the smile on her face.

Steps away from the altar, Andrea then decided to point out Timothy's mom. "That lovely woman in the orange hat, that's Timothy's mom."
As he looked over to the woman in the orange hat, James felt as if his heart stopped. Before he knew it, he blurted out, "Stop the wedding!" then he slowly fell to the ground, fainting.
A very audible gasp echoed throughout the church. Everyone was surprised at his words, and by what just happened. When he gained consciousness, he could see Timothy and Andrea, visibly shaken, leaning towards him. His wife Karen was horrified as she looked at James as well.
It was Timothy who helped him sit up. "We've called an ambulance for you. We think the adrenaline caught up with you and it was too much..."
James shook his head. "No, I meant what I said. You can't marry my daughter," he said again. All the times he interacted with Timothy flashed in his head. No wonder they had so much in common. The age gap, the similarities, and even the mannerisms, all started to add up.

"Dad, what's wrong with you? It's the bride that's supposed to get cold feet, not the bride's father! I'm perfectly fine," Andrea said, trying her best to smile.
"No, sweetheart, you don't understand. You can't marry Timothy because... I think he's my son. Ask her, ask his mom Mildred," he said, pointing at Timothy's mom, who looked away in fear.
"I don't know if he's yours, James. I never took a DNA test," Mildred whispered. "What we had was a fling, and I love my husband dearly, so I didn't dwell on it..."
Andrea had to lean on a church pew to keep her balance. "How could you do this to mom? To ME?" she said, crying angrily. "I'm PREGNANT!"
By that point, all eyes were on James. His wife, Karen, decided to speak up. "Andrea is only six months older than Timothy. You cheated on me while I was pregnant?" she asked in disbelief.
He closed his eyes, wishing he had not said anything at all. At a distance, he saw Mildred and her angry husband walking away from the church.
Meanwhile, Timothy and Andrea remembered the DNA ancestry test they once took for fun. The results would have shown if they were siblings, but nothing showed up.

Remembering the tests they took, Andrea was overwhelmed with emotions. She cried, relieved that she and the love of her life were not actually half-siblings.
After the whole fiasco that happened at the altar, they decided to push back the wedding by a day. As for James and Mildred, they ended up not attending, as they were too ashamed by what happened.
What can we learn from this story?
- The truth always comes out, one way or another. James thought that the affair he once had would not come back to haunt him. However, the truth was set free, and on his daughter's most important day at that.
- Selfish decisions affect those we love as well. The actions and decisions we make affect those we love, and those who love us.
