A mom took her four children to an amusement park and ended up in the hospital after saving them from a faulty statue. Her injuries required surgery, only for the doctor to discover that she couldn't pay for the treatment.

Melissa took her four young children to the amusement park during her day off. She had saved up a part of her salary for a couple of months to take them there, and the most anticipated weekend finally came.

When they arrived, she watched her children run from one ride to another, having the time of their lives. They enjoyed the different carnival booths, where they won prizes ranging from stuffed animals to candies to T-shirts.

At one point in the afternoon, the kids started to feel hungry. They decided to buy some packed lunch at the food court and sat underneath a tall, towering clown statue to shade them from the sun.

While they were eating, a gush of wind suddenly blew, causing the clown to rock back and forth. At first, Melissa didn't think much of it, assuming the clown was bolted to the ground.

However, a stronger gush of wind blew, and she could hear a creaking sound coming closer and closer. Upon looking up, her eyes widened as she saw that a massive part of the clown statue had dislodged and was headed straight towards them.

Without a second thought, she yelled for her children to run, pushing them as far away as she could from the statue. Melissa couldn't save herself in time, and the figure trapped her arm and leg.

Melissa realized then and there that she had likely broken some bones. She was in immense pain and could not move. Her children cried in horror as they looked around for help.

Other theme park goers called for security, and within a couple of seconds, theme park staff rushed to Melissa's aid and had their standby ambulance take her and her children to the nearest hospital.

When they arrived, doctors examined Melissa and provided first aid. But her x-ray results revealed she needed surgery for a broken arm.

The head doctor, Dr. Sanders called Melissa's husband, David, and told him how much the surgery would cost. He was waiting for the go signal from David, but he was silent on the other end of the line.

"You see, doctor, my family, isn't in the best financial situation at the moment. My wife saved up for months to take our kids to the amusement park. I don't know where I'm going to get the funds for her operation, and our insurance is expired," he explained.

Dr. Sanders felt terrible for Melissa and her family and knew she wanted nothing but to give her children a fun, memorable day. He decided he would help them by doing the surgery pro-bono so they didn't need to touch their savings.

"Don't worry about the hospital bill, sir. I think you should go and sue the amusement park for damages and then head on over here once you're done talking to their management," he told David.

"Thank you, doctor, but even if they do settle with us, it would take time. I know the operation is needed urgently. I will see where I can loan some money," David replied.

"Just deal with the court case. The operation will take place today. I will not charge you for it," the doctor insisted before putting down the phone.

Soon after, Dr. Sanders performed the operation on Melissa. The surgery took about two hours, and he had asked a nurse to keep Melissa's children entertained while they waited for their mom.

When Melissa was wheeled back to the recovery room, the doctor was glad to see the four kids rejoicing next to her. "Mom! You're okay!" they said, hugging one another while their mom lay in bed.

The following day, Melissa was cleared to go home. It took her a couple more weeks to recover, and she underwent therapy for free with the same doctor who did her operation.

Eventually, Melissa and her family won the court case against the amusement park, and they received compensation for it. Without hesitation, they went straight to the hospital to find Dr. Sanders.

"Thank you for all your help, Dr. Sanders," Melissa told him. "We'd like to pay you with what we received from the court case settlement," she said, handing him an envelope.

Dr. Sanders shook his head. "I'm not accepting any payments," he said with a smile. "Please, use this money on whatever your family needs. It was enough for me to see your beautiful children eagerly waiting for your recovery. I'm glad to have been a part of that."

Melissa insisted for Dr. Sanders to take the money, but he refused. When asked why, he simply replied:

"A mother who was ready to sacrifice her life for the sake of her children was wheeled into the hospital that day – I'm glad to have witnessed your heroism. Family is worth more than all the money in the world."
