Faramir, played by actor David Wenham, was a fascinating character in "The Lord of the Rings." A strong-willed Faramir overcomes the One Ring's allure, and despite his father's biased affection for his older brother, he loves Boromir regardless.

Faramir was a morally just and good human being, demonstrating these qualities throughout. After Boromir and Denethor II died, he was the last of his bloodline. However, unlike his father, he does not become the Ruling Steward of Gondor and instead steps down when the throne is offered to him.

Throughout his journey, Faramir faces multiple hurdles, but in the end, he finds his love and happily ever after. Here are 39 Faramir quotes depicting his brilliant traits in "The Lord of the Rings."

"Do not scorn pity that is the gift of a gentle heart, Éowyn! But I do not offer you my pity. For you are a lady high and valiant and have yourself won renown that shall not be forgotten; and you are a lady beautiful, I deem, beyond even the words of the Elven-tongue to tell. And I love you. Faramir Quotes & His Conversation with Other "The Lord of the Rings" Characters

"We are become Middle Men, of the Twilight, but with memory of other things. For as the Rohirrim do, we now love war and valour as things good in themselves, both a sport and an end; and though we still hold that a warrior should have more skills and knowledge than only the craft of weapons and slaying, we esteem a warrior, nonetheless, above men of other crafts. Such is the need of our days." — Faramir, "The Lord of the Rings"

"If you took this thing on yourself, unwilling, at others' asking, then you have pity and honour from me. And I marvel at you: to keep it hid and not to use it. You are a new people and a new world to me. Are all your kin of like sort? Your land must be a realm of peace and content, and there must gardners be in high hounour." — Faramir, "The Lord of the Rings"

Faramir: No.

Pippin: You've seen Frodo and Sam?

Gandalf: Where? When?

Faramir: In Ithilien. Not two days ago. Gandalf, they're taking the road to the Morgul Vale.

Gandalf: And then the pass of Cirith Ungol.

Pippin: What does that mean? What's wrong?

Gandalf: Faramir, tell me everything." — "The Lord of the Rings"

"Faramir: Mithrandir! They broke through our defenses! They've taken the bridge and the west bank. Battalions of Orcs are crossing the river.

Irolas: It is as the Lord Denethor predicted. Long has he forseen this doom.

Faramir: Speak!

Frodo: We are Hobbits of the Shire. Frodo Baggins is my name and this is Samwise Gamgee.

Faramir: Your bodyguard?

Sam: His gardener.

Faramir: And where is your skulking friend? That gangrel creature. He had an ill-favoured look.

Frodo : [reluctant] There was no other. We set out from Rivendell with seven companions. One we lost in Moria. Two were my kin. A dwarf there was also. And an elf. And two men. Aragorn, son of Arathorn, and Boromir of Gondor.Faramir : [solemn] You are a friend of Boromir?

Smeagol: No... No.

Faramir: What did they steal?

Gollum: Myyy PRECIOUSSS.[shrieks] " — "The Lord of the Rings"

Frodo: Gollum says there is a tunnel above Minas Morgul. It climbs up into the mountains.

Pippin: I didn't think they would find any livery that would fit me.

Faramir: It once belonged to a boy of the citadel. A very foolish one; who spent many hours slaying dragons instead of attending to his studies.

Pippin: This was yours?

Faramir: Yes, it was mine. My father had it made for me.

Pippin: Well, I'm taller than you were then. Though I'm not likely to grow anymore... except sideways.

[they laugh]

Faramir: Never fitted me either. Boromir was always the soldier. They were so alike, he and my father. Proud... stubborn, even. But strong.

"Faramir: You do not go, because only your brother called for you, and to look on the Lord Aragorn, Elendil's heir, in his triumph would now bring you no joy. Or because I do not go, and you desire still to be near me. And maybe for both these reasons, and you yourself cannot choose between them. Éowyn, do you not love me, or will you not?

'I wished to be loved by another,' Éowyn answered, 'But I desire no man's pity.'

'That I know,' he said. 'You desired to have the love of the Lord Aragorn. Because he was high and puissant, and you wished to have renown and glory and to be lifted far above the mean things that crawl on the earth. And as a great captain may to a young soldier he seemed to you admirable. For so he is, a lord among men, the greatest that now is. But when he gave you only understanding and pity, then you desired to have nothing, unless a brave death in battle. Look at me, Éowyn!" — "The Lord of the Rings"

Depicting his strength despite the great loss and his wise attitude toward life, Faramir's journey is worth admiration. And for the strong and honest man he is, his fans adore him.
